Hey there! Just wondering how many of you have read the Jim Cymbala book Pastor Kent talked about on Sunday. If you have not it is worth the read. I'm interested in getting some conversation going. Looking forward to hearing from whomever.

The Greatest Discovery is worth the read 10 times over.

Why are we(can be anyone) so afraid to go deep into prayer most of the time? I think we can pray deeply once in a while but I truly believe we barely just touch the surface. Is it because we're afraid to trust God to do great things in our life or is that we're afraid that the answer
God will give us is not what we were hoping for? Or is that Satan plants seeds of doubt in our minds. Jim Cymbala makes reference of this at the very beginning of Chapter 2. Looking for feedback!!

I agree that many of us (myself included at times) barely scratch the surface when it comes to prayer. Perhaps some of the things that keep us from a more effective prayer life include:
Time - it is simply not a priority
Discouragement & Doubt - God Hasn't answered the way we expected or wanted in the past
Fear - that trusting God at a deeper level will take us to a place of greater surrender
Control - we want to manage things on our own

Here is another question to consider from page 24 of "The Greatest Discovery"
"If our churches don't pray, and if people don't have an appetite for God, what does it matter how many are attending the services?"

How would we rate our church as praying church with an appetite for God?

Wherever we may rate ourself, what can we do to reach a place of greater passion?
